Area of Intervention Skill Devlopment Training Beneficiaries till date 1038

What we see around us in the fast-growing Indian economy is a veritable paradox. While employment avenues are increasing rapidly, they are not being filled by people with compatible skill-sets. Unemployment, therefore, continues to rise inexorably.

The result is perpetuation of poverty, right in the midst of opportunity! Just over a third of the aspirants who enroll in primary school actually reach degree level. The huge pool of school drop-outs thrown up by the system year after year renders itself unfit for sustainable mainstream employment.

Don Bosco Institutions address this endemic problem with a market-based approach that is sensitive to the socio-economic needs of marginalized youth in the 18-35 years age group. There is 300+ skill training centres across India that attempts to bridge this widening divide between those who have access to opportunities and those who are increasingly being marginalized from the ‘new economy’ jobs.

With a mission to educate the young for life and livelihood, the St Joseph Industrial Institute at Kurla was established on the 30th January, 1963. This Institute offers various formal and informal vocational training programs for the youth. Currently they train around 2000 youth per annum in their short term, mid – term and long – term training programs. The Institution has sought for 16+ Industrial collaborations like viz. Toyota, Ford, Grohe, Godrej, Daikin, Motul, Snider etc.

As a part of our support to social activities in India, Seth Bhojraj Hassomal Charitable Trust has partnered with St. Joseph Industrial Training Institute, a part of the Don Bosco Group of Institutions for providing Vocational training programs in the areas of Wielder, Fitter, Electrician & Draughtsman courses. SBHCT has substantially contributed towards upgrading these labs by providing the required equipment which has facilitated more effective implementation of quality training to students. This support will go a long way in enhancing the quality of training and further boosting the employability of the youth of Mumbai and the nearby suburbs. This association will benefit around 330 students every year in getting quality skill training and mainstream employment.
