Empowering Street Children Through Opportunity

Every child deserves the chance to dream, learn, and build a future filled with possibilities. Yet, for thousands of children living on the streets, survival often takes precedence over education, creativity, and personal growth. It is this gap that Salaam Baalak Trust (SBT) has been striving to bridge since its inception in 1989.

Inspired by the resilience and spirit of the children featured in the acclaimed film Salaam Bombay!, SBT has evolved into one of India’s leading organizations dedicated to the care and development of street-connected children. Through its comprehensive network of support services, the Trust addresses not only their immediate needs for shelter, healthcare, nutrition, and education, but also nurtures their emotional, social, and creative development, helping them build the confidence to shape their own futures.

Sharing this vision, the Seth Bhojraj Hassomal Charitable Trust (SBHCT) has partnered with Salaam Baalak Trust under its Bhojraj Shiksha Program to provide enriching extracurricular learning opportunities for children residing in SBT’s shelter homes across Mumbai.

The initiative supports a diverse range of activities including performing arts, dance, theatre, singing, sports, martial arts, football, conversational English, computer education, and other skill-building programs. Conducted by trained instructors, these sessions encourage children to discover their talents, develop life skills, and gain the confidence needed to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

Today, this partnership reaches nearly 300 children every year across SBT’s centres in Andheri, Dahisar, Malad, Malwani, and Charni Road. More than an extracurricular program, it is an investment in young lives—creating opportunities for self-expression, nurturing hidden potential, and empowering children to dream beyond the limitations of their circumstances.

Through this meaningful collaboration, SBHCT and Salaam Baalak Trust are not just supporting street children; they are helping them build brighter futures founded on confidence, creativity, and hope.
