Falguni Vocational Centre

Children with intellectual and developmental disabilities are affectionate, yet they are so very different that throughout their lives they need constant help, supervision, protection, guidance, and acceptance and above all love. Academically, they cannot go beyond standard of a normal child in its true perspective. Vocational training plays a major role in the management, education, training and rehabilitation of Persons with disabilities.

There are 52 students with different ability levels in this unit in the age range of 18-45 yrs. Many are trained in various vocational skills like House Keeping, Home Sciences, Jewellery making, making food products (chocolates, spices, etc.), making handicraft Items (door mats, torans, wall hangings, etc.), making linen cushion covers, Bed spreads, Kitchen napkins, making seasonal products (diyas, candles, rakhees, etc.)

Products are sold during the annual exhibition and also stalls are put up in various Corporate offices during festival season.

The training program also focuses on discipline, independence, socialization and quality output. The students are paid a stipend depending on their output and sale. This motivates them to perform well and boosts their confidence and they become contributing members of the society.

Students need to be kept occupied or else it may lead to many behavioral challenges which may create disturbances not only in the family but also in the Community. Most of the students are unable to get open job placements, hence need to be placed in a sheltered workshop. Though the training period in the vocational unit comprises of three years, there is no exit age limit for the students.

In line with its objectives, Seth Bhojraj Hassomal Charitable Trust has associated with Swami Brahmanand Pratishthan to support the students with intellectual difficulties by facilitating vocational skills training at the Falguni Vocational Centre. This association commenced in the year 2017 -18, and till date have been benefiting the 204 students studying at the Vocational training Center in helping them gain some marginal skills.
